Many of the conversations that my braindead self and several others had often culminated in this question. This particular conversation sums it up quite completely: a concerned "So what time did you sleep last night?", an extremely sheepish bleary-eyed smile, and "Oh, I see; not at all. Gotcha."
Again, I'm really terribly sorry if I said anything bizarre or confusing to you. My sleep hiatus can basically be summarised in a resort holiday description: 3D2N.

I guess it really could have been worse. It went much better than it could've, considering that we managed out four technically five-piece OOAK outfits in completion for the event – so it makes sense that we would be totally late and uh only finish totally setting up at around 3 or so, about 1½ hours after event starting time. There's nothing much I can really say about this other than: oops, classic Tangled…

So this year, as displayed on the TDA site, was going to be revolving around the Crane Wife legend as butchered by Colin Meloy [I love the man I'm serious]. This only came about on the second-last day before registration as our collab partner unsuccessfully tried to wager herself out of her good friend's wedding [by the way don't identify yourself here, talk to me laytah and I hope that wedding went well]. [info]silencestation and I were standing in the MRT and debating. Bathoom, Crane Wife was born.

Our set-up, the graphic poorly pieced together because I was evidently too stupid to actually just step a few steps away and you know, zoom out. But anyway, you get the gist. Crane Wife display mournfully labouring away. Outside, kids play – with the exception of Sana shoveling snow. You're a good man, Charlie Brown.

Crane Wiiiife. )

And the OOAK outfits for sale. All of the faux-kimono sets had:
1. Inner Gown/Dress
2. Kimono Coat
3. Obi [/+ obijime and obiage for girls]
4. Neck-tie
5. Headpiece

Faux-Kimono Sets )

And where's Sei again? Oh right:

Sei can be quite funny. )

My only complaint was the terrifyingly late booth map and information for the vendors. I was seriously worried there that I didn't get it or something, and with the light-intensive setup it was a big worry. Thank you for accommodating our request! Hopefully next year the information will come out earlier and that'll be fine. :D

We've got people to thank of course:

Because I'm longwinded. )
and personally, to [info]silencestation, thanks for everything of course. I'm glad I could do the headbands to your satisfaction.

All in all, zomg one week to school. Damn.

My agony and misery finally culminated on the 29th, last Saturday, as we rushed to The Doll Affair and reached 15 minutes before the event opened due to a *$#@ing traffic jam. "Do you think we can set up in 15 minutes?" Djinn mused. "I think so." I said, with much misguided positivity. Well, we sort of did – if Petr would just touch Sei's hand instead of drawing it away in reluctance, if Si Ye would stop falling back and be a little less gay, if Ren would just settle into suwarikko. Amongst the terror of setting up in 15 minutes, my delightful cosplay buddies [info]raydance and [info]ivoryfox were deviously and annoyingly prodding me about the time, while [info]night_child80 was gleefully announcing the number of seconds we had. Thanks a lot, guys.

Aaaaargh and long elaboration. )

The stuff for sale in the event, therefore, was :
1. Actual Clothes [SD, SD13 Boy, YoSD] x3
2. Chokers [SD] x5
3. Postcards [Sei x15, Petr x15]

Here's how our booth – weenier than we imagined initially, which made Djinn panic the night before as she marked out the space on the floor – looked like, excluding the little corner selling postcards and jewelry :

On the left, [unfortunately you can't see more of the moon, the snowy night, Giselle's grave, mound, rose petals and that amazing Spanish moss] the display setup inspired by the second act of Giselle. Petr is our prima ballerina Giselle, the engaged-girl-turned-wili [lady spirits who were supposed to be wedded – oops.]. Seishurou, the guilty prince pretend-pauper Albrecht coming to visit Giselle's grave and condemned to dance to his death by the wilis, and Tsukisou, who is the angry Queen of wilis who really, really wants Albrecht to die. I know it looks more like Tsuki is rly jealous, but shhh and try to imagine, okay? XD;;;

For those who know the story of Giselle and their visuals, you'll realize that Tsuki's outfit, unlike Sei's nancy tights and Petr's expansive skirt, is not similar to the actual Queen outfit. This is because ours is ah, a reintepretation of the Wili scene. We felt that for our visuals, a parallel dynamic would work better for the Queen and Giselle. Our queen is thus based off a darker colour palette, but like Giselle has some flowing torn fabrics and a long veil of the same design. That's our excuse story and we're sticking to it.

On the right, is our happy little display of the outfits for sale! That'll be detailed under the cut because I'm sure the non-doll people on my flist are sick of my lengthy elucidation.

the Giselle pre-launch outfits! )

Multitudes of Thank Yous )

There we go! Like said, thank you all very much for making our TDA lots better, and we hope we'll see you again next year. :D

But before I go – we still have some chokers and postcards for sale!

Chokers and Postcards [Sei, Petr] for sale! )

Phew! I'm done! XD;

So the prelims will restart again in two days, and I've already had a nightmare about the prelims. This must denotate an anxiety which is uh, not so subconscious.

The other subconscious dreams that I've been having are things to do with protruding and crumbling skulls [ie. mine] and dislocating lower row of teeth which dislocate with the gum [also mine], so I guess the other subconscious anxiety I have is uh, calcium deficiency.

One side of my ribcage seems to have swollen and has been so for a while now, but I've no time to bother with it - hell, I haven't even had time to cut my hair. [It now is messily layered and flips up slightly behind.]

So all this ramblin' [ramblin' man!] is really to post this :

[photoshoot on DoA | tangled]

Because I had a vision of the last photo, and so I constructed the photoshoot around it. I tweaked around the settings until Djinn double-approved of the colours and slacked off for an hour to take photos. The clothes aren't made by me, by the way, they're from Amelie Tailor and they're falling apart, but it looks real good. XD

In other doll-related and cosplay-related news - well, not that it matters to anyone, in all honesty XD;; - guys, Djinn and I [and subsequently Tangled] will not be at EoY this year. [That delays dolly Suzumiya Haruhi till next year.] If we can manage to make it for The Doll Affair, I know I can't handle the workload of both the con and the dolly event. Nobody's going to miss us at the con, anyway. [And again, this is said in all honesty without any pretense. There're so many lovely doll setups and we've been so out of the loop.]

So there we go.

I was immensely relieved that this year, we had a good open space and were not at all thankfully in earshot of the stage. But this is also - I believe the first year I've looked back at the end of the con, and thought, "what the fuck did we do that all for?" I was talking to Tashi about this, how it felt so odd that it was a day we were looking forward to, and doing so much preparation for - and bam! Here it is, and here it goes. And inside - nothing. Not that people didn't stop by the booth and all, but after all the crap that happened today including the front-door not locking and a bag splitting resulting in items accidentally left at home - well, 7 costumes, 5 custom wigs, was it worth it? I don't know. It was nice to see actual setups this year though, I think the doll booths looked very nice. :D

Also, am I that unrecognisable as Watanuki, or is it because no one has seen that image before, or reads xxxholic at all? Because you know, you'd think that standing behind a booth with "TANGLED WEB xxxHolic 2006" wasn't a giant hint or anything.

But in any case, the real crux of the post, is that in half an hour, I will be carted off to Changi airport and soon will end up in China, Fujian. I'm not at all excited, far from it, I haven't gotten sleep and I really, really hate guided tours with 5 different hotels. Missing the weekend premiership, wasting precious time after having sacrified a great part of my SOUL to the EoY - but definitely since dad relents to us going to Europe and Japan, yes, of course we return the favour. Still, I wish he wouldn't lie about the program and the number of hotels we're staying in and so on to try to make it sound better, because it really isn't. I'm going to try to enjoy myself as much as possible. However I can. Will be back late 23rd, so merry christmas eve in advance!

I decided to go easy on myself today and just do the finishing touches of the Spider Spirit and Doumeki, since I was about to have a little online meeting with my groupmates and had to sit down and read the pages I photocopied from a book about the UN which doesn't seem to have a good impression of the UN at all. Fwee!

Since I'm a spaz I also decided to be overexcited and post the finished Spider Spirit and Doumeki costumes! Yeeey!

No ref pics, sorry, I haven't scanned them yet, but I hate this thing. It should've been the easiest. Instead it takes loads of custom painting of LINES. LINES THAT MATCH UP. AFJKDJSKLJFKLJSLKCLAMP!!!! I could not find cloth like this at all, so painting it had to be. Of course, there's a few bleeds and stuff but after scraping at the cloth and crying over the stupid yukata in an attempt to solve it, Djinn told me to forget it because no one is going to look that close. [And if they do I'd probably have to bap them.] What I'm reaaaaally happy with, despite the fact I ALSO had to paint black tulle white and that it was $#($*@) to handsew, is the crayfish bow. Eee!! XD

Sei is so unhappy in yukata. XD

FEAR THE FACELESS. Also, LOOK, I've conquered the DD boobs [you can't see the fitting but it fits splendidly yey] THERE IS NO BOOB I CANNOT CONQUER. I also hate sewing fishnet. Also, the little sash thing from the neck is wired! Now we can wiggle it about dramatically.

Also, another poll! :DDDDDDD

Yey. We finally updated Tangled with the STAC 2005 cosplay photos and stuff. I sewed Sanada/Tsugiri's wig!

I have to admit I'm not half excited about this time's update because the costumes weren't complete to my satisfaction [and we forgot to stick the gem on Tsuki's forehead T_T]. Will definitely be completing Tsuki's Matsulika costume and then doing a photoshoot outside for him and Seishurou as Ryouko. In the meantime, I won't be shoving this update in everyone's faces. XD

All of the stuff to do with the SD cosplay and the booth is all here, so you can read my con essay report there instead of me posting it in my LJ all over again XD;;;

The weather is getting really awful. ::feels like a Japanese letter:: All damp and hot and very damp and very very hot. Everyone becomes gradually more sleepy in the day in school and I'm getting a sore throat somehow - I caught myself choking and my voice fading out when I was trying to ask my History tutor something. What horrible weather. I hope it'll a) get less humid and hot soon or b) get better at home when the dudes finally get here and maintain the air con.
__________________________

I caught sight of Gary [Neville] in the Chinese newspaper today and snatched it up. I've stopped watching/thinking about football [soccer] because it simply breaks my heart because of its wavering status all the time [also, Chelsea's foreign influx with its foreign benefactor with its sudden rise to the top of the English Premiere League makes me want to pound them into the ground]. [Complicated matter, I've always been a Liverpool fan but somehow unfailingly and horrifyingly Gary Neville of Manchester United is my favourite footballer ever...]

I thought he was out with another broken ankle of some sort or another! And now I find out he was pissing Liverpool fans off again for some reason - but that's actually really besides the point, because it may mean I have to watch FIFA this year. Which would really suck, because I thought Djinn and I waned off football. I mean, we were just talking about whether to watch it or not and we agreed to watch a Sweden match because the guys tend to look like Gucci models running around on the pitch! Karma just decided to bite me in the ass and somehow there was a pang in my heart when I saw him in the newspaper! Damn!

Please don't make me want to watch the EPL and/or FIFA. It really would suck. ::ignores a tinny little version of "You'll Never Walk Alone" playing at the back of my head::

Thanks to my unfailing informant on events going on in the local cosplay forums [which I don't visit for to save my soul], I just found out that someone decided to create an animation Teen Titans team. Which makes me immensely relieved that I settled on the comic [as in, the REAL comic] Teen Titans Robin, with jungle-green spandex and red leather and vinyl belts and everything. I should learn how to do forward flips in the meantime - somehow I can do forward splits, side splits and cartwheels but chronically unable to do forward flips. Djinn says that it'll be easier to learn if I learn how to do handstands first. She promises that she'll get me to do handstands yet. I'm not sure about this.

I've hardly actually had time to exercise or do anything in JC life, but this could be explained because of the distance between the junior college I'm in right now and my house. We'll be moving soon hopefully to that new house we really liked without my dad being dicky about it. And I will end up at a junior college hopefully criminally close to the new house. XD That would be great.
__________________________

Reading my ex-classmates illegal exploits of clubbing I find that I am actually incredibly prudish despite my best intentions to see topless shows and drink. My idea of a spanking good sinful time while boozing myself out is really sitting around the house naked gaming and getting all boozed out in the process. GEEK.

[I blame Penny Arcade.]

And so tracks another day towards counting down until the posting results to my new Junior College is out. I'm trying valiantly to pay attention and be a good girl in class but I can't help thinking I'VE GOT TO BE OUT OF HERE SOON and FUCK OFF, DUDE and I HAVE LOTS OF OTHER THINGS TO DO. Lousy Singaporean education system. Efficiency is a foreign word.

Oh, and also the action ZZZZZZ. I'd like that back, please.

Back, of course, from the end of year con, which was a project completely out of my hands as - FOOLISH ME, I THOUGHT I COULD DO 7 COSTUMES AND MY OWN. HA HA. WHAT DO I KNOW? I've gotten old and amidst my meticulous double stitching and serging, I've become so, so slow.

As most con days started out, it was awful, I wasn't able to finish all the costumes and so I cheated and hoped for the best. As it is, the day turned out much better than expected.

I don't have time to elaborate right now, as you can see it's just a preview, and I need to rush off to finish a suit jacket for Si Ye before 4am [I did his winter coat - corduroy is my second vinyl! ♥], but I'd like to thank a few people -

[info]silencestation - Djinn dear, thanks for relenting and tolerating me and doing my makeup and all - every year you're forced to do something new [like this year's barbering XD] and you always do it splendidly. Thank you so much, I'm really sorry it was so messy and stoned. ::tight hug:: Love you.

[info]ivoryfox - Thanks awfully for waiting for me and doing your Myoubi costume so splendidly, it turned out beautiful and I really want to do a proper photoshoot sometime! I'm really sorry everything was so delayed. ::snug:: ANd that you had to wander down and help me carry stuff up. XD;;;

Plhu - My pretty Enju! I hope the wig turned out fine, you look perfect as Enju and I want to see you again >D Thanks also for putting up with my seme antics, whether or not you were aware of it. XD

[info]sassystrawberry - Evildolly, it's okay that you didn't manage to finish the Matsulika costume, see if you can sometime in time for a photoshoot? XD I'm glad to know you tried, and I apologise for twenty thousand frantic phone calls ^^;;;

Bright Zanya - I'm so sorry for being so stone I didn't even realise your booth was so close to mine~! XD;;;; I really enjoyed seeing your baby girl and Zanoto, and of course you again, sexy as Kadaj. I always treasure the photos you take with me - and the gift you somehow always leave behind for me! ::hughug::

[info]tashigi - Tashi, you really didn't have to help so much with your elaborate boobilicious costume but you did, and I'm grateful for that. ::snug:: Definitely looking forward to cosplaying DOLLS with you next year EoY! ::thumbs up::

[info]sukuishi - Thanks lots for toddling over in the Pope costume and helping out, and also taking care of the booth, really needed the help since I was so stone. XD And you know the rest. ::slap on back::

[info]mushrooms - it was good to share in floofy sleeveness and stoneness, and thanks for helping at the booth. ::molest::

[info]kannazuki - Glad to see you again, Sena! ::snug:: It'd been a while. DOLLS with me next year, okay? Lots of fun blood and violence!

[info]sfsakana - I really didn't expect you to buy the entire set of postcards - T___T thank you so much Sakana! ♥ And I'm sorry I poked at you - actually I'm not, your figure was very nice to poke at. XD

[info]raywing - I'm really sorry I was so stoned when you said hi. XDDD ::dies:: but I'm glad you did, anyway, it was nice to see you again!

[info]holyprophetril - Qin, I'm very apologetic that the first thing that caught my eye right after going - "Oh my gosh, Qin!" was your shimmery purple shirt, and that I exclaimed "What an amazingly gay shirt". XD;;; Lovely of you to pop by and actually talk to me, more than once, more than a mandatory "hello". ::hug::

[info]averseofmelody - You were so sweet to us! THank you for all the really cute dog pins, Sanada will use them to his fullest XD

[info]pudding_neko - I was very happy and surprised when you brought your boy over to our booth! XD He makes a very cute Conrad and I'm glad you think our booth is nice! Also, thanks for struggling with our cameras and the jelly XDD

[info]wispen - Joyce, I think you did a great job this time, you will be coming to more events right? XD It was a very pleasant surprise to see you there. ♥

Beibei - What are the odds my booth is next to yours again?! XDDD ::snug:: Nice Kadaj, what can I say, you got so many photos~~~ XD

[info]crystarlia - It was nice to see you and your cute boy again! XD the hat especially fits him very well.

And to all the others who helped, like Nic, thank you awfully, and those whom I didn't get to meet but I sort of saw, like Rika, who indirectly made the con more awesome, and all those who brought their BJDs, making the EoY look like a mini BJD event and in overall make the con more tolerable and woke me up a bit from my sleepless stupor, thanks so much.

I will be away from um....today 13th December 5.30 am to the 23rd of December, in the USA. I'll update in a better fashion when I get back, and in the meantime, with the preview, here's a little happy sales pitch that I shamelessly copied and pasted from Djinn!
